About the award
The Turning Silver Into Gold Award for Entrepreneurship and Leadership is named in recognition of Nova Scotia entrepreneur and community advocate Trevor Silver.

This award recognizes a Black or African Nova Scotian student who demonstrates initiative, creativity, leadership, and a commitment to personal growth and community impact. The phrase “Turning Silver Into Gold” reflects the belief that success is not defined by where someone begins, but by the willingness to learn, build, and transform opportunity into something greater through education, discipline, and perseverance.

The award celebrates students who embody resilience, leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking while contributing positively to their communities. It may be open to students across all NSCC campuses and programs, with particular encouragement for those pursuing studies connected to entrepreneurship, media and communications, creative industries, and skilled trades.

Trevor Silver is a Nova Scotia–based entrepreneur, creative founder, and community advocate dedicated to building opportunity through education, culture, and entrepreneurship. He is the founder of tREv, a clothing and lifestyle brand built around the principles of Trust, Respect, Educate, and Value, which promotes personal growth, unity, and positive representation through design and storytelling.
