Excellence in Early Childhood Education Bursary


The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is pleased to offer the Excellence in Early Childhood Education Bursary for students enrolled full-time in year one or year two of the Early Childhood Education program at any campus where the eligible program is offered. This program is made possible by contributions received through the Canada-Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement coordinated by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Eligibility requirement

  • Permanent resident of Nova Scotia (temporary foreign workers, international students, or any other person in Canada on a temporary resident visa do not qualify)

Please note: Applicants in a funded eCampus seat; applicants receiving funding from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD); applicants enrolled in an Early Childhood Education training program already funded by EECD; and applicants in receipt of the Africentric ECE Bursary are not eligible to apply


Application assessment will consider

  • Good academic standing
  • Preference: Applicants who identify as belonging to an underrepresented group within the sector: Acadian/francophone, persons living with a disability, 2SLGBTQIA+, Newcomer, Mi’kmaq/ Indigenous, Black/African Nova Scotian, or another racially visible group

Payment details

Bursaries of up to $5,000 are available for eligible full-time students enrolled in either year one or year two of the program. Funds will be paid in installments over the duration of eligible terms in the schedule noted below as long as eligibility requirements are maintained.

Students who were selected for this bursary in year one of their program and who continue to meet eligibility requirements will have their bursary automatically renewed for year two of their program.

  • Year 1, term 1 instalment: $1,250
  • Year 1, term 2 instalment: $1,250
  • Year 2, term 1 instalment: $1,250
  • Year 2, term 2 instalment: $1,250

  1. Excellence in Early Childhood Education Bursary Declaration


    To support your application, you must confirm and agree to the following: 1) You are enrolled full-time in the Early Childhood Education program; 2) You are a resident of Nova Scotia (temporary foreign workers, international students, or any other person in Canada on a temporary resident visa do not qualify); 3) You will be responsible to contact the Canada Revenue Agency to determine any tax or other financial implication as part of receiving a taxable benefit; 4) You will contact the Student Assistance Program to report the amount you have received through this bursary should you apply for, and be selected to receive, student aid; and 5) You consent to being contacted by NSCC on behalf of EECD for purposes related to this bursary.
