The Samit & Reshma Sharma Excellence Award

Open to full-time students enrolled in year two, year three, or graduating from any program at any campus.


Application assessment will consider

  • Financial need
  • Community involvement/volunteerism
  • Perseverance in overcoming obstacles and shaping future goals
  • Good academic standing
  • Requirement: students must be enrolled in diploma programs
  • Preference: one recipient will be selected from each of NSCC’s academic schools/institute (School of Access, Business, Creative Industries and Education; School of Health and Human Services; School of Applied Technology and Innovation; and Institute of Skilled Trades)
  • Preference: provincial allocation (no multiple recipients from the same campus)


About the award
The Samit & Reshma Sharma Foundation is established with the vision of “advancing excellence in education”. Its mission is to “seek, recognize, promote, and celebrate exceptional scholars and distinguished programs at leading institutions in study, skill development, learning, and research”. This is achieved through the provision of scholarships, bursaries, awards, grants, and prizes to expand the knowledge frontiers in post-secondary education. As education produces a society of outstanding people. Its annual Excellence Award established in 2025 at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), honors outstanding students in each of the four NSCC schools. The award hopes to select its recipients that have demonstrated exceptional overall achievement, combining academic excellence, leadership, financial need, volunteerism, peer collaboration, and personal growth. Selecting students from different regions to ensure that award impact is Province-wide, with awards distributed across different campuses prior to being duplicated at any one campus in any year.
