Awarded to a full-time student(s) who will be enrolled in year 1 of eligible programs at the Marconi Campus.


Eligible programs include:

  • Automotive Service and Repair
  • Carpentry – Diploma
  • Electrical Construction and Industrial – Certificate
  • Electronic Engineering Technician
  • Heavy Duty Equipment / Truck and Transport Repair – Certificate
  • Industrial Instrumentation
  • Metal Fabrication
  • Motorcycle and Power Products Repair
  • Plumbing
  • Power Engineering Technology
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Welding


Students must demonstrate

  • Financial need
  • Commitment to program
  • Good academic standing
  • Applicants must be a graduate of Sydney Academy High School, Riverview Rural High School, Glace Bay High School or Memorial Composite High School


About the award
Nova Scotia Community College gratefully acknowledges the generosity of the family and friends of Stephen Sorrey for establishing an award in his memory. Stephen was loved by all who knew him.

Stephen started the Carpentry Apprenticeship program in 2005. His love for building began early in his life and he had a passion for woodworking, tools and a deep respect for wood itself.  He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local 1588, Sydney and obtained his Red Seal certification as a Journeyman Carpenter in 2009. This award was established to honour Stephen and celebrate his life.
