Heather O'Brien - VON Memorial Award


Open to full and part-time students who will be graduating this spring from the Practical Nursing program at any campus where the eligible program is offered.


Application assessment will consider

  • Financial need
  • How applicant is inspired by Heather’s spirit and legacy: how their service, commitment and acts of care and compassion have and will go above and beyond the call of duty and inspire others
  • How applicant’s work within their community to give back to ensure it is a better and safer place for all
  • Good academic standing
  • In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must be graduating from their program this spring


About the award
This award was made possible by the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON). The Heather O’Brien – VON Memorial Award is in honour of the life and work of Heather O’Brien. She was a caring mother, wife, grandmother and nurse. She had a passion for her job and shared her deep caring of others as a VON nurse for nearly 17 years. This award recognizes the meaningful contributions of a graduating student whose service, commitment and acts of care and compassion have gone above and beyond the call of duty and inspired others. The student awarded possesses VON’s values of respect, compassion and excellence which were embodied Heather.
