Open to full or part-time students enrolled any year of Marine Engineering Technology or Marine Navigation Technology at the Strait Area Campus. This sponsorship is renewable for students in multi-year programs based on successful completion of first year and remaining in good academic standing.


Application assessment will consider

  • Preference is given to applicants who self-identify as female and/or Indigenous
  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Permanent residents
  • Prior to the selection of the award, eligible applicants will be required to be interviewed by Marine Atlantic Inc. to discuss possible future employment, as well as work placement and/or co-op opportunities


Payment details

  • 50% ($2,500) of the funding will be issued upon selection
  • The remaining 50% ($2,500) will be issued upon successful completion of a work placement


Work integrated learning and/or post graduate work requirements

  • Recipient must discuss possible future employment, as well as work placement and/or co-op opportunities with the Sponsor


About the sponsor
Marine Atlantic Inc. (MAI) is a federal crown corporation which operates a year-round ferry service, that is an essential transportation link between Newfoundland and mainland Canada. MAI operates a 96 nautical mile daily ferry service between Port aux Basques, NL and North Sydney, NS. In addition, MAI operates a 280 nautical mile summer seasonal ferry service between Argentia, NL and North Sydney, NS. Given the essential nature of our service, it is vital to MAI that there is a steady and reliable supply of new officers within each vessel department. Marine Atlantic is pleased to offer to cadets an exciting opportunity to apply to our Cadet Officer Sponsorship Program (COSP). MAI considers this program as a key initiative to supply future Navigation and Engineering Officers for our vessel operations.
