Open to full and part-time students who will be enrolled in any year of study of the Africentric Early Childhood Education program at Akerley Campus.


Application assessment will consider

  • Financial need
  • Strength of character
  • Overcoming obstacles and challenges in pursuit of studies
  • Academic performance (applicants must maintain a minimum average of 65% in their studies)
  • Self-identification as African Nova Scotian or of African Descent (Black, African American)


About the award
The Dr. Joyce Ross Perseverance Award was created to support and encourage African Nova Scotian students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Diploma Program at Nova Scotia Community College. This award was named In honour of Dr. Joyce Ross, an African Nova Scotian woman who had a dream of advancing young Black people in the community of East Preston.
