About the award
The Bedford Horticultural Society (BHS) was founded in 1950 and continues to be an active member of the Nova Scotia Association of Garden Clubs. Along with their many community activities, each year BHS members contribute plants from their own gardens and hold a plant sale to raise money for the Bedford Horticultural Society Bursary.

The bursary is in memory of one of the BHS founding members, Ena Fenton, who was an enthusiastic member of the club for several decades. Like Ena, BHS members are keenly interested in supporting young people who wish to pursue a career in horticulture and/or landscaping. A highlight of the year is welcoming the bursary winner to one of the BHS meetings where they will make a presentation on a horticultural topic.
