About the award
John Kavanagh was an incredible person and often called the ‘entrepreneurial bureaucrat’. He worked the majority of his career in community economic development and 30 years for ACOA. He was instrumental in establishing key entrepreneurial organizations like the Centre for Women in Business, the Black Business Initiative Society, Volta Labs, Atlantic University Business Development Centres and our very own NSCC Entrepreneurship, among many others. John was a dedicated public servant, skilled conversationalist, a strong advocate for building communities through entrepreneurial mindset and above all he loved his family. His friends and family have created this award in his memory to honour his legacy and inspire the next generations of entrepreneurs.
The John Kavanagh Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be awarded to a student who has gone above and beyond to foster and grow entrepreneurial culture at NSCC and our province while also having a significant social impact on their campus and in their community. This award recognizes the individual student that represents all the potential and good that can come from entrepreneurship when it is viewed through a positive social impact lens.
This award has been made possible by the generosity of the friends and family of John Kavanagh. The NSCC Student Awards program is funded by donors, partners and sponsors through the NSCC Foundation.
This award will be awarded at the ACOA/SHIFT Awards in spring.
