Co-op Student of the Year Award


Awarded to a full-time student who completed a WIL Co-op experience between April – October 2024 and returning to full time studies in Fall 2024.

Co-op consists of alternating academic terms and paid work terms. At NSCC, co-op occurs between year 1 and year 2 of a student’s program over the spring/summer for a minimum of 12-weeks (420 hours). Co-op provides experience in a workplace setting related to the student’s field of study. The number of required hours varies by program however, the time spent in work terms must be at least 25% of time spent in academic study for programs 2 years and shorter in length.


Application assessment will consider:

  • Impact on Organization and any outstanding work achievements (e.g., cost savings, process/quality improvements, design/development innovations, improved customer services, significant research, or other initiatives, etc.)
  • Impact on Self and how the experience enhanced your personal, academic and career development
  • Impact on NSCC and how you have you helped to promote work-integrated learning to peers


About the award
Each year, NSCC gives out a non-monetary award to recognize the outstanding efforts by students in the area of co-op, the “Co-op Student of the Year.” The application for this award includes recommendations from NSCC faculty and the employer.

The winning application will be forwarded on for consideration of the Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL Canada)’s Student of the Year Awards in January of 2025.

Award
Winning students will receive a plaque, a certificate for their portfolio, and be nominated for CEWIL Canada's Co-op Student of the Year award.
