About the award
Alexander Peeler was a graduate of NSCC with diplomas in both Screen Arts and Marketing. He was a filmmaker and disability advocate from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Alex lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a life-threatening condition that gradually weakens muscles. He founded Squeaky Wheel Productions in 2016, to combine his passion for filmmaking and advocacy in order to fight for the rights of people with disabilities. Alex aspired to overcome adversity and improve ways to fulfil disability-related issues such as accessibility and inclusion. His dream was to strive to make the world a better place now and in the future. Sadly Alex passed away on July 6, 2020 at the age of 27. His legacy lives on through the films and videos he created.
