About the donor
Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation and Horizon Maritime value equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are committed to being leaders in supporting healthcare equity initiatives for our communities. Working together, we have established a renewable bursary (up to three years) with the goal of encouraging more Mi’kmaq learners to pursue careers in healthcare. It is our hope that these students, upon completion of their studies, will return to their communities to apply their knowledge and expertise for the benefit of Mi’kmaq peoples throughout Nova Scotia.
Horizon Maritime is proud to be able to collaborate with the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation and NSCC on a program that is so important to Nova Scotia. Horizon is very familiar with the high calibre programs offered by NSCC in many different career fields because many of our seafarers have benefitted from this education and training through the Marine programs NSCC offers. To be able to support Mi’kmaq students pursuing health-care careers by educating themselves at NSCC is something Horizon is proud to be a part of.
The bursary is valued at $3,000 per year and up to five bursaries (one for each Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Territory District) will be awarded annually to Mi’kmaq learners entering select healthcare-related fields of study at NSCC.
