Arlene MacInnis Humanitarian Award


Open to full-time students who will be enrolled in the final year of eligible programs at the Sydney Waterfront Campus.


Eligible programs include

  • Continuing Care
  • Disability Supports and Services
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Practical Nursing
  • Social Services
  • Therapeutic Recreation


Application assessment will consider

  • Passion for social justice and improving the lives of marginalized populations
  • Community involvement and volunteerism
  • Career aspirations
  • Good academic standing


About the award
This award was established in memory of Arlene MacInnis, a former faculty at NSCC Marconi Campus (now Sydney Waterfront Campus). The award is given out annually to a graduating student in a Health and Human Services program at Sydney Waterfront Campus. The recipient will be an individual who best exemplifies the qualities and actions that made Arlene the unique person she was, these include: a strong sense of social justice, a passion for working tirelessly to help improve the lives of the marginalized, and the ability to give one’s time and resources to strive for equity for all.

In addition to a $1,000 award, the donor will contribute $100 to a charity of the recipient’s choice.
