About the award
This award was established to honour Dan Bulger’s father, Leo Bulger, and Leslie Bulger’s grandfather, Victor Walsh. Leo Bulger was a Second World War veteran, and part of the Canadian D-Day special forces on June 6, 1943. Leo returned to Canada married and helped raise six children. He worked all his life as a heavy machinery mechanic and always believed in a hard day’s work for hard day’s pay. He was very humble and had a no-nonsense way about him. Victor Walsh, with less than a grade six education, started a life of farming. Even with very little formal education, Victor had the knowledge, wisdom, tenacity and the willpower to make a living through farming for the next forty years. Victor was an intelligent man with a quiet pride about him, never saying anything unless he had to. Both Leo and Victor thrived on hard work, honour and character. Dan and Leslie are proud to honour these men by supporting students that show merits of good character, pride in their work and conduct themselves with a sense of enjoyment in what they do.
